And then let's not forget; the hierarchy of information, tone of voice, level of relevance and variance of interpretation. That’s when it becomes complex.
But here are a few pointers we use to bring it back to being simple again - a checklist that may be helpful for when you are writing your brief and / or critiquing copy.
A little distance always goes a long way. Sometimes you can just get too close to a job.
Hitting the spot - asking:
- who am I talking to?
- what makes them interested?
- why can I succeed in talking to them?
- am I speaking their language?
- how much do they want or need to know (now)?
In their shoes - thinking:
- what do I want the reader to remember?
- what do I want the reader to do next?
- what do I want the reader to feel?
Devil’s in the detail - ensuring:
- factually correct
- grammatically correct
- and it all makes sense
